Gar-Field Softball is a VHSL spring sport. We are looking to field both JV and Varsity level teams. Tryouts for softball begin in mid- to late- February with the spring season running through the middle of May. Off season workouts began during fall 2025. Softball off season takes a break in November during winter sports dead period. Workouts resume December 2025 up until winter break. Then pre season workouts will continue in January through up until tryouts in February. Gar-Field Softball will be participating in and/or hosting a Spring Break tournament; please ensure the first half of spring break is available for softball games.
Tryout Dates:
- February 23, 24, and 25
- 2:30-4:30
- At the Softball Stadium
- In case of inclement weather, alternate location in the blue gym.
Team Requirements:
- Women’s softball glove that is at least 11.5 inches minimum, bring everyday
- Softball bat if you have one, bring everyday
- Cleats for outdoor, tennis shoes for indoor/weight room; bring both every day
- Any other softball equipment you might have (e.g., facemask, catching gear), bring everyday
- Transportation home from practices and games
- Activity buses are available Monday–Thursday, departs GF at 5pm
- Positive attitude, patience, willingness to learn
Head Coach: Amanda Cahow
Coach Cahow is a current PE teacher at Gar-Field and is entering her seventh season as the head coach for Gar-Field Softball. She is also one of the assistant coaches of Gar-Field's Golf team. She is the former head coach of the Field Hockey program and an alumna of Gar-Field High School.

Assistant Coach: Tom Brown
Coach Brown has returned to Gar-Field and is entering his 3rd season as an assistant. Coach Brown used to be the head coach for GF softball here for many years, before taking a break to coach at another school. Then he found his way home. He coaches football at Hampton and is an alumnus of Gar-Field High School.
