Gar-Field Senior High School is pleased to announce Zach Edmunds as the next Head Football Coach. Coach Edmunds was most recently the Wide Receivers and Tight Ends Coach at Bluefield State University (West Virginia). Prior to Bluefield State, Coach Edmunds was the Running Backs and Tight Ends coach at South Carolina State University during the 2021 and 2022 seasons under head coach Buddy Pough, culminating with a MEAC and Celebration Bowl Championship over Jackson State, then coached by Deion Sanders. While at South Carolina State, Coach Edmunds coached all-conference players Kendrell Flowers (RB), Yancey Washington (TE), and Khalil Ellis (TE).

Coach Edmunds spent the previous three seasons prior to South Carolina State in the same role at his alma mater, Newberry College (South Carolina). While at Newberry, Coach Edmunds coached and recruited multiple All-Conference & All-American players including Marion Anderson (RB) and Tommy Washington (TE). During the 2021 spring season in Newberry, the Wolves running backs led the conference in rushing yards per game, yards per carry, and rushing touchdowns.

As a player, Edmunds was a two-year starter for Newberry, earning All-South Atlantic Conference honors as a senior in 2015. He caught 25 passes for 224 yards and three touchdowns in scarlet and gray, playing in 32 games after transferring from Charleston Southern.

Gar-Field Athletics is excited to bring Coach Edmunds on our staff. He will be available to meet and greet faculty, staff, players, and parents after-school on Tuesday at 2:30p.m. in the Lower Cafeteria. All current players are expected to attend, and any new players interested in playing shall attend, as well. Currently, you may reach Coach Edmunds via email at [email protected] and by attending out-of-season practice(s), workout(s) and meeting(s).

All interested assistant coaches may communicate directly with Coach Edmunds and Mr. Michael Payne, Director of Student Activities at Gar-Field Senior High School ([email protected]).

Let’s go, Red Wolves!
